Right concepts. Clear thinking. Better tools.
CodeRenewables is my personal initiative to give engineers the right concepts, ways of thinking and tools for resource assessment in wind and solar, so energy estimates become more accurate and better understood.
What it’s about
In resource assessment, small assumptions decide large numbers. Everything here serves one of three aims.
Concepts
The ideas behind the methods, such as shear, long-term correction, transposition and uncertainty, explained plainly with the standards and sources behind them.
Thinking
How to reason about the numbers: which assumptions matter most, how errors combine, and when an energy estimate deserves trust.
Tools
Free browser tools that put the concepts to work, with methods you can read and check. Much of the code is open on GitHub.
Tools
Live web apps you can use right now in your browser.
WattOdds
Get the odds on your energy yield. Explore the probabilities behind a project's expected output (P50, P90 and beyond) and see which uncertainties drive the risk.
Open WattOdds →Sitebook
One organised record for each renewable site. Bring together measurement data, metadata and documentation so the whole team works from the same source of truth.
Open Sitebook →WindNudge
Nudge one assumption and see how far your wind yield moves. It reruns every scenario through measured wind speed data and ranks what matters most: speed, shear, air density or losses.
Open WindNudge →SolarNudge
Nudge one assumption and see how far your PV yield moves. It reruns every scenario through hourly irradiance data and ranks what matters most: irradiance, soiling, temperature, clipping and more.
Open SolarNudge →Open source
Projects you can read, run and contribute to.
An open-source wind resource assessment platform: an MCP server plus a workflow web app covering ingest, cleaning, shear, reanalysis and long-term correction.
PythonEverything about uncertainty in renewable energy: methods and references for quantifying it.
